FHR26 in the wet at FSAE Michigan 2026

Design. Build. Compete.

South Dakota Mines Formula SAE · Since 1996

What is Formula SAE

Formula SAE is SAE International's collegiate design competition. University teams design, build, and race a small open-wheel car under a common rulebook, then defend their engineering in front of judges from industry.

Cars are scored in static events (business presentation, cost and manufacturing, engineering design) and dynamic events (acceleration, skidpad, autocross, endurance, and efficiency) for a possible 1,000 points.

Formula Hardrocker Racing

Formula Hardrocker Racing is South Dakota Mines' Formula SAE team. Each school year we design, manufacture, build, and test a formula-style race car, then take it to Formula SAE Michigan to compete against more than 100 universities. The team has competed since 1996.

Our members come from many majors and experience levels. The point is hands-on learning: every season we get better as engineers because we build something real.
